Selling You Dreams is a video installation for four speakers and four screens. The speakers ‘perform’ scores displayed on the screens in front of them. The speaker-screen configuration is similar to a quartet of musicians. The four speakers face inwards while the four screens face outwards so as to be visible to the audience.

The relationship I form between speaker and screen attempts to address issues of translation through performance practice in the reading of scores and encoding of musical language. Interpretation and translation connect the project to addressing ambiguities between the real, fake, and artificial in human and computer-generated material.

I developed Selling You Dreams during a research residency at the Orpheus Institute, Ghent between June 2023 and January 2024. The project premiered at Orpheus in December 2023. The research residency was funded by UKRI's Arts and Humanities Research Council.
